What to Expect on your First Visit

On your first visit, I’ll ask you to fill out some entrance forms so we can discover more about your diet and health history. I’ll probably ask some simple questions and take some notes to clarify your answers on the forms. I’ll also want to know more about your physical complaints, the reason you came in and what your health and wellness goals are.

Orthopedic, Neurological, & Range of Motion tests

   
Our evaluation will include some orthopedic, neurological, and range of motion tests that will tell us how your system is working and give us some clues as to whether or not your body is stuck in the emergency mode (fight or flight).

If your body is stuck in defense, the healing which should be taking place automatically won’t occur.

Is it a NUTRITIONAL or TIMING problem?

Are your problems worse in the morning and better as the day progresses? Or are your problems better in the morning and worse as the day progresses?  These questions help us determine if we are dealing with a nutritional problem or a timing problem. If your problem is worse in the morning, we’re probably dealing with a NUTRITIONAL toxicity issue (your pH could be low because you have too much protein in your diet). If it’s worse in the afternoon, we’re probably dealing with a TIMING issue with the nervous system. Your body may be doing the right thing, but at the wrong time.

If we were able to do the pH tests on your first visit, we will discuss what might cause your difficulty and explain what treatment we feel will work best for you, outlining a treatment plan designed to get maximum results in the shortest possible time. These important first steps will help shape the direction of treatment we will use to get you out of pain and onto the path of health and wellness.

Understanding important wellness concepts


Your body is a self-healing mechanism

It was designed to heal itself. If you cut yourself, the body heals the cut, right? If you break a bone, a doctor sets it in place and the body heals the bone, right? If a vertebra has been knocked out of place and is pinching a nerve, that should be corrected automatically too, right? If it’s not doing this there’s a reason and what we’re interested in discovering is why it isn’t healing.

It's what's in your subconscious memory that controls your physiology. We’re looking for the CAUSE, and the cause is nearly always related to subconsciously stored memory patterns. More than 90% of all brain activity is subconscious and it is your subconscious that governs your body. We'll build on this concept as we go along.

   

Your body heals on a priority basis

Quite often, a client will come in with a specific symptom or pain that he wants to eliminate. But what he wants through his conscious mind is not significant to his subconscious mind which has the absolute responsibility and wisdom for governing his body! You can be unconscious or asleep and your subconscious mind will continue its flawless operation of running all of the many thousands of processes needed to keep you alive, second by second.

The conscious mind is aware of pain, but not priority. So this client is aware of his chief physical complaint, but he doesn't know if he has a weak organ. His physical pain is important to him and he wants to get rid of that pain NOW!

But his subconscious mind has greater wisdom; it knows a weak organ is life-threatening and that physical pain is not, so it's going to ignore the physical pain and concentrate on healing the weak organ.

The body's Subconscious Intelligence sets the priority and will always work on what's most life-threatening first, then it will move on to the next most life-threatening issue.

So we need to cooperate with your body's innate wisdom and help it fix the most important health priorities first. After it has taken care of the most important issues, it will then dedicate the energy needed to heal your less serious symptoms. We don't want to just treat part of you, we want to treat the whole person.

The body was designed to survive, not be healthy or sick

The physical body always manifests the perfect response to our CHOICES; especially regarding what you EAT, what you DRINK, how you EXERCISE and REST, how and what you BREATHE, and the most important is what you THINK.

Whatever your problem, your body has responded perfectly to the stimulus it is receiving. You don’t just get sick; first your lifestyle weakens your immune system and then you become vulnerable.

The encouraging part about this is that YOU can change the stimulus with the CHOICES you make every day. Making the right choices will improve your health proportionally. It's up to you!

   

Passive versus active healing

Most people think healthcare is a passive activity. They go to somebody and take something to activate the healing process. Whatever he is taking is what he thinks is doing the healing. That’s passive! It’s a GO, DO and TAKE thing! He doesn’t know that his body has the ability to do its own healing.

What we need to do is move you from passive healing to active healing. You’ve got to get involved in your own healthcare. The SIX ESSENTIAL CHOICES you make everyday is active work. When we unite these two efforts, you'll experience some profound health benefits.

During our mind-body sessions, we have to work TOGETHER as a team to discover and remove the cause of your problem. I’ll be here as a coach and mentor and help you learn how to respond differently to the stresses of life than you have in the past so you can avoid recreating the problems after we clear them. That’s the way you’re going to get better. WE are going to discover where this interference occurred with you; what it is that shut down or short-circuited your system and stopped its ability to heal itself. We’re going to figure that out; YOU and ME.

Your CENTRAL CONTROLLING MECHANISM (Pt 1)

   
Your CENTRAL CONTROLLING MECHANISM is made up of two systems which function as a single entity. To make it easier to explain and understand, we’ll break it down into two parts.

The first system of your body that we look at is the ENERGY SYSTEM and how that energy is flowing through your body. If it’s moving the way it’s supposed to, then healing happens automatically. If it get blocked or interrupted, then healing slows or stops.

What I’m talking about is similar to the energy meridian system that acupuncture has used for thousands of years (but we don’t use needles, so don’t worry about that).

But we’re using the same concept of energy that practitioners of acupuncture and acupressure have been using for thousands of years all over the world. You’ve probably heard a little about that before, right?

While it’s not necessary for you to know a lot about your energy system to get great results, I think you’ll find the HUMAN ENERGY SYSTEM page and the associated pictures that look at energy spectrums fairly interesting.

Be mindful that instructions for your health are received from the electromagnetic field around your body, and that your nervous system also communicates via electrical and chemical signals (called neurotransmitters) inside your body.

Your nervous system is made up of your brain and the nerves that run from the brain through the spinal column, branching off into all parts of the body including the organs, glands, and extremities.

So, if there is interference anywhere in your nervous system, then the area that is innervated by that particular nerve (or nerves) is going to be compromised as well. Remember, we live our lives through our nervous system and the memory patterns stored in our subconscious mind.

Now, something is causing all these things to happen to you, and your body isn’t fixing them even though it has the capacity to do so. So if it isn’t doing the healing, we have to find out why rather than chase all of your symptoms around in a circle. Usually there is one major thing going on that causes all of your symptoms. When we discover what that is and treat the CAUSE, all of the symptoms typically begin to fade away too. So I’m after the umbrella that is over these things and that’s what I’ll be looking for.

Your Nervous System

   

The TWO DIVISIONS in your Nervous System

The first part is the Central Nervous System (the brain and spinal cord) which controls our voluntary and outward physical reactions and is under conscious control; it’s where you do your thinking, planning, and decision making. It’s your conscious process.

The other part is the Autonomic Nervous System (autonomic = automatic). This part is the subconscious mind that governs your body; it controls and coordinates your internal physiological environment.

It is responsible for keeping your heart beating without you having to think about it, it keeps you breathing, it regulates your blood pressure, your hormones, and keeps you digesting your meals, and it does it all automatically (even if you’re sleeping or unconscious).

In fact, your subconscious mind is responsible for regulating ALL of the many thousands of processes needed to keep you alive, second by second, and you don’t even have to remember to do anything! It's all automatic. It’s also responsible for the healing process, so if healing isn’t happening for you, we can probably trace it back to to interference or blockage in the Autonomic Nervous System.

Since more than 90% of all brain activity occurs in the subconscious part, we’ll spend more time with it. It can also be divided into two categories.

The two subdivisions of the Autonomic Nervous System

The Autonomic Nervous System has two subdivisions; the "sympathetic" part REVS you up in emergency "fight or flight" situations. The "parasympathetic" part CALMS you down when the emergency is over so you can get back to filtering, cleansing, healing and replenishing the immune system.

These two systems are supposed to remain in balance with each other; your body should be able to effortlessly shift back and forth between these two modes.

So, when it’s appropriate for you to be “revved” up for an emergency you will be, and when it’s not appropriate, then you can come down out of that emergency physiology into a relaxed internal state where the body can get back to the work of cleansing, filtering, and healing itself, and concentrating on digestion and rest.

The Fight or Flight Response

Example: BEARS and the “fight or flight” mode

If we’re sitting here relatively relaxed, and a BEAR charges in through the nearest door, both of our nervous systems are going to jump into this emergency mode and REV us up; our heart rate and blood pressure will increase, the adrenals will rev up, muscle tone will increase, our eyes will dilate, and all nonessential life functions, like digestion, cleansing, filtering, and healing will be cut off.

This fight or flight reflex will keep us REVVED up until the danger from the BEAR goes away. Then we’re supposed to come out of that emergency mode and return to a relaxed healing, filtering, and cleansing mode in which it takes care of any problems the emergency might have created during the encounter with the BEAR, and it also goes back to work at healing things like your low back, neck pain, headaches, sinus problems, or whatever it is that caused you to seek out help.

We are designed to be moving back and forth between these two subdivisions of the nervous system; the emergency mode (REV) or the healing mode (CALM), depending on what is appropriate for the time. That’s the way it should work.

Modern-day BEARS are not a physical
threat, but the body responds the same

Unfortunately, in the real world, the BEARS can be really big (like a death in the family, a divorce, an accident, or a job loss), or there can be two or three bears all at once, and this overwhelms us putting us into the emergency mode when we shouldn’t be there (because there is no physical threat), and we get stuck there. Now, often, the BEARS go away and we’re still stuck in the emergency mode and it’s going to cause problems. Even though being stuck is inappropriate, we can get stuck there where healing cannot occur.

Now the number one priority for your body is SURVIVAL. And if it thinks there is something it needs to be surviving from, it will stay in this emergency/defense physiology and not in the healing mode. So now you have this pain or problem and perhaps your body is not even trying to heal it. It’s over here trying to get away, running from the BEAR. So, if you’re not getting better, we have to find out how to get you out of this emergency mode and return you to the healing mode so you can get better.

These BEARS come in many shapes and sizes:
   
  • The worry bear
  • The bad relationship bear
  • The loss of a loved one bear
  • The bad boss/coworker bear
  • The bad kids bear
  • The finance/debt bear
  • The bad traffic bear
  • The stressful life bear
  • The "too busy" bear
  • The trauma/injury bear
  • The toxicity/pollution bear
  • The dietary imbalance bear

There can be a lot of BEARS in our lives. So how does this relate to these symptoms you are having? It’s probable that you have one problem - an imbalance in your Autonomic Nervous System, and all of your symptoms have the same cause. We’re looking for the CAUSE of your problems. We don’t want to treat symptoms; we want to remove the cause so the symptoms become unnecessary. For instance, you have neck pain. It’s normal to have tight muscles if there’s a BEAR in the room with you, but not if you're lying down in your easy chair. And if those muscles are tight enough long enough, they’ll pull the vertebra out of position, pinching the nerves. That’s what can happen if you’re locked in the emergency mode.

Fortunately, our mind-body strategy, coupled with kinesiological muscle testing, enables us to identify your priority health problem so you don’t have to tell me a bunch of things; I’m going to be able to tell you what is interfering with your health and you’re going to be able to put 2 + 2 together in your own mind to figure out exactly what the situation was that got in your way. It is a lot easier to demonstrate it than it is to verbalize it, but you'll understand it quickly once we begin your treatment.

Is it a NUTRITIONAL or TIMING problem?

Let’s revisit the nutritional questions…

Are your problems worse in the morning and better as the day progresses? If this is so, we’re probably dealing with a NUTRITIONAL toxicity issue (you may have a low pH because you’ve been eating too much protein for a long time).

Are your problems better in the morning and worse as the day progresses? If it’s worse in the afternoon, we’re probably dealing with a TIMING issue with the nervous system.

The purpose of the NUTRITIONAL QUESTIONNAIRE is to help determine your alkaline reserve status (your pH), because healing happens in the body within a certain chemical range. Anything outside of that range slows down or stops the healing process. So we could be doing all of these treatments to unjam your computer and get your nervous system back into a healing mode so that it will take care of your physical complaints, only to find that the chemistry in your body is creating a “toxicity” emergency all the time.

So, your body is not going to concern itself with healing your physical complaints because they probably are not life-threatening.

It’s going to concentrate on its highest priority, the low pH issue, and nothing anybody does for you will work until you first address this core issue.

Emotional Override:
Spiritual struggles can also cause acidity problems that are distinctly different from dietary or physical threats. If this is your situation, your symptoms may never ease.

You probably have continual recurring thoughts; you may be overwhelmed with unforgiveness, anger, resentment, distress, rage fatigue, unfulfilled, or overthrown...

EMOTIONAL OVERRIDE occurs when your thoughts, memories, and emotions override the power of your body’s perfect intelligence by forcing it to respond to a situation that is not really life threatening, even though the survival instinct believes them to be so.

When you’re stuck in this way, your symptoms may never ease; your nervous system will probably lose control and your body will secrete hormone chemicals that are congruent with your negative emotions. Inappropriate release of hormone chemicals triggers an emergency that can further add to your acidity problem while the hormones create their harmful effects in your body for a day or two.

If this is your situation, you may feel revved up and anxious (until that certain system becomes exhausted), and then you'll feel down, no energy, depressed, and tired. Then you'll feel normal for a while as you swing from hypo-__________ to hyper-__________ again. This cycle may be broken if the nervous system regains control or it could repeat itself over and over again.

Intense, passionate negative emotions can drive you into Emotional Override, and if you don't forgive and release them, you'll get STUCK (where healing cannot occur), and very few people in the healthcare industry will know what to do about this.

So, back to the NUTRITIONAL QUESTIONNAIRE; your toxicity problem could be nutritional (low pH) or emotional (or both), or it could be a timing problem within your nervous system.

Once we've gathered all of the necessary data, we will explain what treatment we feel will work best for you, outlining a treatment plan designed to get maximum results in the shortest possible time. These important first steps will help shape the direction of treatment we will use to get you out of pain and onto the path of restored health, vitality, and wellness.

Back and neck problems

Usually, people with back and neck problems are stuck in the emergency mode (in sympathetic dominance). If the nervous system was working as it should be, the muscles would be properly pulling the vertebrae and maintaining spinal symmetry.

So if you have a vertebra that is out (and not because of trauma), it’s because the muscles pulled it out; and if the muscles pulled it out, it’s because they received motor commands from the brain via the nerves through the spinal column, telling them to do so; and if they received motor commands from the brain telling them to do that, then the motor commands from the brain were probably the wrong commands because of high brain interference (a timing issue), or they were derived from aberrant physiological memory patterns stored subconsciously.

Remember, we live our lives through the nervous system and our subconsciously stored memories.

It can become a memory pattern that is activated when you think about something that generates that feeling(s). So every time you have that feeling associated with that injury or experience, your body will manifest some of the symptoms from it.

Now we can’t blame the muscles for pulling a vertebra out, because they are only doing what they are being told to do. And we can’t really blame the nerves because they are only delivering the message from the brain.

A description of our mind-body treatment

So, using our mind-body techniques, we’re going to stimulate specific areas of your brain to restore balance in your Autonomic Nervous System so your body can move into a healing mode and correct these asymmetries that we’re seeing.

Your body is working harder than it needs to be working and it just needs to relax and that’s what we’re going to show it… how to relax. It’s stuck in that “fight or flight” mode and it doesn’t need to be there. Your complaints can’t be healed when you’re in this emergency mode. It’s stopping or slowing the healing process.

During the treatment, I’ll have you lie face-up on a treatment table and I'll compare leg lengths, leg strengths, spasticity, and arm strengths.

Next, I'll go through a comprehensive flowchart while using muscle tests, and find the priority category to begin our healing work.

Our treatments clear nerve interference and neutralize harmful physiological memory patterns that are stored subconsciously.

This improves internal neural communication and balances the Autonomic Nervous System so you’re body can move from the emergency mode to the healing mode. It’s kind of like rebooting a malfunctioning computer. You’ll notice an immediate difference.

   
Our mind-body treatments require only light contact on certain muscle groups, nerve centers, and on specific meridian access points (these energy centers are also called Pulse MAPs and Body MAPs).
